Kartik Shukla Navami is known as Akshay Navami
and Amla Navami. On this day, worship of
Amla tree, darshan , and the consumption of Amla is going to
give perfect health. The ninth day of the bright fortnight of the month of
Kartika denotes Amla Navami. The Amla has been given the status of the divine
fruit by Lord Vishnu in the Maha Vishnu Purana ,Amla is used as a major
ingredient in preparation of most of Ayurvedic medicine.
The sourness of Amla decreases the
excess of Vata dosha, the coldness and soothing effect reduces the
Pitta dosha and the rough
or sharp nature mitigates the Kapha dosh in the body. Amla is digestible, diuretic, and natural blood purifier
which aids in skin rejuvenation and proper digestion.Intake of amla
helps in preventing cold, coughs and flus and even helps recover from such
illnesses. It also helps you burn fat and sport a slimmer waist and improves
insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood sugars.
When the whole earth was inundated
and there was no life on it, then Brahma ji was sitting in a lotus flower
and doing penance of Lord Vishnu. At this time, the tears of love - love's tears were dripping from Bramha
ji's eyes. It was from these tears of Bramha ji that the Amla tree was produced, which
resulted in this miraculous medicinal fruit.
On this day, donations, chanting and austerities all come together, meaning that they never fade. According to Bhavishya, Skanda, Padma and Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu and Amla tree are worshiped on this day. The fast is kept throughout the day. After worship, food is eaten sitting in the shade of this tree. It is believed that by doing this, all kinds of sins and diseases are removed.
·
